Description

Pack your machete because this trail is an adventure. It features amazing views of the Tabeguache Creek canyon, some seriously overgrown bushes impeding the trail, and an abundance of bear scat to keep you on your toes.

The trail starts in open Ponderosa forest, crosses a gully and then traverses under sandstone cliffs. At 1.75mi, the trail crosses the creek. At 2 mi, you'll come to a large clearing with great views of the cliffs above you. Here numerous cattle trails come together and the route finding becomes iffy - the trail continues immediately to the right of the large ponderosa. After climbing through more overgrown shrubbery, the trail comes out to a ridge with a great view at 2.65mi. At that point we turned around, because the bushwhacking was too much.

This trail would earn at least one more star if the forest service would maintain it, but in it's current state it is far more difficult than the elevation profile would suggest. Be prepared to be the only party on the trail and be bear aware!
