Need to Know
This is a boardwalk trail. The boardwalk ends just behind the primary dune. Please note that you'll need to climb up and down that primary dune in the soft sand.
Runner Notes
This is a boardwalk trail that is great for running. However, it is narrow so please be aware of other visitors. Also, this trail ends at soft sand.
Description
The Dune Trail takes visitors through the dunes and onto the refuge beach. To arrive at the trailhead visitors take the
East Dike Trail approximately one half mile south of the smaller of the two parking areas. Follow the boardwalk to the beach. Be sure to stop at the platform halfway through the dunes. From the platform you can see both the ocean and the Back Bay. This view is definitely not one to miss. Once you arrive on the beach turn right to run south down the beach or left to turn north and head up to the
Seaside Trail.
Flora & Fauna
American beach grass, sea oats and live oak trees are some of the plants that can be seen. Birds, deer and tracks from bobcats, coyotes and foxes may be seen as well.
