Need to Know
Make sure to pay a visit to the Ricardo Visitor Center by following Abbott Drive. You can find great information about the park as well as view the many great displays covering everything from geology to Native American history. The Visitor Center is typically open on weekends and certain weekdays during the spring and autumn.
The trailhead is located on Abbott Drive just off of Highway 14 in Red Rock Canyon State Park. The trail is a short one mile loop that is easily accessible for just about any experience level. Hagen Canyon is one of the more scenic areas of the park, which also makes it one of the most popular. There are towering colorful cliffs that the trail wanders below with constantly changing scenery as you run back through the tilted layers of strata. If you know where to look, you can find rock windows and the famous "Camel Rock." There is also a rich film history in this canyon, particularly among old westerns.
The trail is fairly level with very little elevation difference. However, it does cross and follow the wash in multiple places, which is something to consider if running during a period of rainfall. The best times to go are during the spring and autumn seasons.
