Runner Notes

There are signs in the area warning of barred owl nesting. They have been known to attack park visitors in the past, so be on the lookout.

Description

The Veterane Trail is a nice, nearly mile long trail that, when accessed from the Gazzam Main Trail, meanders slowly downhill through the very quiet and picturesque Gazzam Lake Nature Preserve. There are a few steeper sections at the bottom end of the trail. The trail is best done as an out-and-back run, but it can be also made into a loop when combined with the Knudsen Trail, which also connects to Crystal Springs Drive further north.

The trail is best accessed from the parking lot at Deerpath Lane; from there, start on the Gazzam Main Trail and look for the trail entrance on the left shortly after passing the water towers.

Flora & Fauna

Owls and Douglas squirrels live in the area.
