Need to Know

This trail is paved, well-marked, as well as ADA accessible. All will enjoy this step back into history.

Description

This short run begins at the main parking area just outside of the Visitor's Center. You'll run across the main road via crosswalk and follow the trail marked with the usual brown and white National Park System signage. Since the lighthouse is visible from the main parking area, you'll likely not have any trouble finding your way.

The trail loops around the lighthouse with a nice viewing area on a trail extending off of the main path aptly named the Kelp Forest Overlook Trail. From there you'll enjoy endless views of the Pacific Ocean to the west, including large kelp forests in the water, and the typical water and air traffic expected so close to a military base. The lighthouse is well preserved with great information posted along the self-guided tour. You are even able to go up to the second level of the lighthouse to see the living quarters of the residents of the time. The trail concludes back at the parking area.
