“Follow an ancient route that pilgrims used to travel to Rome to ask penance for their sins.”— Lost Justpastnowhere
The route starts in Ganna as a doubletrack from SP11 (Strada Provniciale - Provincial Road). It then narrows as it heads through a marshy area with a couple of small lakes before paralleling the Fiume Margorabbia (river). The trail is quite flat and easy in this section. This continues for about 4 km (2.5 mi) until the trail crosses the busy SS233 (Strada Statale - State Road).
Once it crosses SS233, the trail becomes narrower still and climbs steeply (100m/300ft) for 0.6 km (1 mi) on the slopes of Monte Monarco. At this point, it reaches a gravel road. The gravel road descends 1.6 km (1 mi) to the Castello di Frascarolo on the outskirts of Varese. This castle is still owned by descendants of the Medicis and is not open to the public. From the castle, the route of the Sentiero del Giubileo follows local roads until the train station in Varese.
