While the arch is hidden most of the time, there are plenty of other things to see!

Features Birding · Wildflowers

This is a NPS federal fee area (National Monument).

Description

The arch is visible at the beginning of the trail and then becomes hidden behind the cliffs. There are great views of volcanic rock formations, organ pipe cacti, and other desert vegetation along the trail.

The trail is well-maintained for the first 0.7 miles. The trail then continues as an unmaintained trail to the arch (not included in this GPS track) and becomes very steep, rocky, and slippery.

As the trail gains elevation, you can see more of the surrounding area. If you hike in the morning, you get the benefit of hiking in the shade as the sun isn't high enough to clear the mountains above you.
