Description
The Baylor Canyon Trail may start along a gradual grade, but the steady climb ahead and copious rocks scattered through the area prevent this from being an easy trail. Above the first switchback there are a series of shelves where the tread is granite sand (grus). Continuing on, conditions can be pretty chunky in spots and there are many rough water bars too. Just past the half-way mark, the singletrack travels through a saddle and begins the descent to Aguirre Spring Campground.
The trail can be traveled in either direction, but keep in mind that with a 1,500-foot ascent that weather conditions may be very different at the pass. Be prepared.
Flora & Fauna
This trail has an abundance of plants. Alligator Junipers, pines. sotols, cacti , oaks and the endemic Organ Mountains evening primrose. Many species of birds.
