General Wade is famous for building a network of military roads through the highlands in the 18th century to control the local population following the Jacobite uprisings. This forest road segment follows a portion of the former military road from north of Aviemore to near Sluggan Bridge.
The route is well-graveled as it passes through the forest and won't represent much of a technical challenge, although it does feature some short, stout climbs in either direction. The eastern side connects with the High Burnside network of trails around Aviemore. The western end continues as NCR7: Sluggan Bridge Off Road Section across the historic Sluggan Bridge.
