From the Visitor Center, take the red-blazed trail. Run through the woods around the deer exclosure area (a fenced-off portion of forest used to determine deer impact on unfenced forest). From the trail, you can both see the lake and get to it if you want to. If you're looking to extend your time on the trails, look for the junction with the blue-blazed trail on the northern side of the loop.
