Overview

Enjoy one of the longest and highest stretches of grassy balds that the Appalachian Mountains has to offer.

Need to Know

Bring a hat and sunscreen! You'll be exposed to the sun for 80% of the run.

Description

Enjoy breathtaking views all around you as you run to three different balds. Starting from Carver's Gap, you'll enjoy an easy run on gravel to your first bald, Round Bald. The run to Round Bald is very heavily trafficked.

After Round Bald, the gravel ends, and the trail begins to become more rugged on your way to Jane Bald. On your way, look for wild berry bushes along the side of the trail. Once you have past Jane Bald, you'll come to a Y in the trail where you'll bear right to head to the Grassy Ridge Bald.

Grassy Ridge is the highest of the three balds at 6,165 ft. From here you have 360-degree views of the surrounding hills of Tennessee and North Carolina.

Went on to Overmountain Barn and back. Great run although some parts not really runnable due to brush overgrowth. Didn't bother me though. Still great 12mi
