Description

The recently built Pronghorn Loop is a great run close to the nearby town of Del Norte. The ~9 mile loop is 100% singletrack purpose built for bikes, but can be used by runners as well. The trail wanders through unique rock formations then climbs into high meadows where you can see all the way across the San Luis Valley to the Sangre de Cristo Mountain Range.

The suggested direction is clockwise starting at the north east end of the loop. The east section contours the hillside, navigating through unique rock formations while paralleling the San Fransisco Creek Road. The west end of the loop is where most of the elevation is gained and lost. Watch out your step while out on the trail to avoid stepping in cactus along the way. In the heat of the summer, rattle snakes are a common sighting.

My route mirrored the route here and it was about 1.5 miles longer. Cold cold day with harsh winds, fun going on the snow! 10.2mi — 1h 58m
