“A solid run with great vistas overlooking the Tahoe Basin, including views on top of Castle Rock and looking down on it.”— Jess TrailRat
This run included that and great views as well, probably some of the best in the area. I started along the Tahoe Rim Trail (TRT) toward Castle Rock, and stopped for photos on top of Castle Rock. It's not clear, but you have to go around to the west face of Castle Rock to get on to the top via the Castle Rock Trail.
I then followed the TRT further south, and picked up the Daggett Loop Trail that is east of Kingsbury Village. This trail seemed to be well marked, and easy enough to follow with the Trail Run Project mobile app. Stay on the singletrack, and don't follow washouts or service roads.
Heads up: The return loop is essentially all uphill. So take some snacks in addition to plenty of water. I rested and took pictures a lot, so the total time for me was about 4 hours.
