Overview
Bald Mountain is a prominent peak overlooking Bald Mountain Pass, Moosehorn Lake, and Mirror Lake in Wasatch National Forest. This run in particular makes a steep, rocky, and exposed bid for the summit along the well-marked Bald Mountain Trail and ends with a spectacular view of the surrounding area.
Need to Know
Parts of the trail can be covered in snow even in July, so some route finding may be required.
Description
Starting at the Bald Mountain Trailhead, this trail joins the
Notch Mountain Trail #81 for a short distance before branching off right to begin climbing the flanks of Bald Mountain in earnest. Don't expect much in the way of breaks from the grade along this climb, so be sure to take your time and stop to catch your breath when necessary.
Eventually, the trail trades climbing switchbacks for climbing along the spine of the ridgeline. Once you've paid your dues slogging up the ridge, the trail crests the ridge, and the summit comes into view. Enjoy the fantastic views you've earned as a reward before making your way back the way you came.
