Need to Know
Adventure Pass required to park at Manker Flat. In summer, the ski lift operates on weekends which takes hikers and bikers from the end of the paved road to the ski lodge. This road is sometimes called "Falls Road" on the lower portion. The Forest Service official name is "Baldy Notch Service Road". Other references call this "Mt. Baldy Road" which is the name of the paved road to the ski lift.
This road is used to access San Antonio Falls
, the Baldy Bowl Trail, and the Baldy Notch area which connects with trails to the north and south. It begins as a paved road adjacent to the Manker Flat Campground passing a few houses then makes a bend where a short spur trail leads to the falls.
The road turns to dirt and passes a junction with the Baldy Bowl Trail #7W02
in 0.8 miles. From there, it climbs steadily with intermittent shade from oaks, bigcone spruce, Jeffrey pines, and white fir. It passes under the ski lift then reaches the notch near the Baldy Ski Lodge.
Flora & Fauna
Oaks, Jeffrey pines, sugar pines, bigcone spruce, and white fir provide occasional shade. Blazing stars can be seen on some of the rocky areas. Watch for bighorn sheep.
