“An alternate route for GRT that climbs a hill, otherwise skirted using the GRT/North Country Trail.”
— Kevin Ketchman
Less rocky than the mountain bike section, you can easily make up time on your run if you take the climb in stride and push downhill.
This alternate route is a shortcut of sorts, but what you save in distance (maybe 0.2 miles) you are subjected to in climb (~100 feet). Heading west to east, the initial climb is significant, but the eastern face of the hill gives runners room to run over pretty fair trail. The GRT/NCT shared section follows contours around the hill, and is a more enjoyable section than this alternate route.
