Description
Veronica Loop Track starts and ends at the Egmont National Park north entrance visitor center. It is a trail through the densely forested lower slopes of Mt. Taranaki.
From the visitor center, the Veronica Loop climbs steadily for its first .8 miles. Much of this climb has stairs built into the trail. Although the trail is in dense forest, occasionally the trees thin and views of the flat lands that surround Mt. Taranaki can be seen. Additionally, if one is lucky enough to have a clear day, the snow covered summit cone of Mt. Taranaki can be seen, a spectacular sight.
A trail junction is reached after .8 miles. A short side trip, by going straight at this trail junction onto Holly Hut Track, brings one to a lookout. From Veronica Loop, at this trail junction, to follow Veronica Loop, veer right as indicated by the trail signs. Veronica Loop now descends for the next .8 miles through the thick forest. Again, many sections of the descent have stairs. Veronica Loop then veers right to return to the visitor center.
