“A very challenging run up rocky terrain with 3000+ feet of elevation gain.”

The trail is an old forest service road that is used by jeeps and OHV's, and as such there are many side roads and cut throughs, particularly near the start of the run, and none of the trails are well marked. Be sure to study a map very well before heading out or use the Trail Run Project mobile app
to help find your way.
This is a very challenging and long run, with approximately 3000 feet of elevation gain over rocky terrain with not much shade. However, it's a great workout that offers some beautiful views of Reno as it traverses through the eastern hills of the Carson Range. Hunter Lake itself is more of a shallow pond that is nestled in a scenic willow-fringed meadow, but still makes for a scenic destination.
