This route is a popular way to reach the summit of San Gabriel Peak. Though there are steep portions, you'll be rewarded with amazing views at the summit that make this well worth the effort.

The trailhead is located just above Red Box on the Mount Disappointment access road. The Bill Reilly Trail
heads up about a mile toward the top of San Gabriel Peak. A bit before the peak, you'll rejoin the access road and so you can easily bag both San Gabriel Peak and Mount Disappointment on this outing.
Continue up the access road to an old helicopter pad where you can pick up the end of the San Gabriel Peak Trail
for a short scramble to the top. You'll be rewarded with a spectacular view of Mount Baldy. You'll also find a bench and geocache box. You are also looking down at the Mount Wilson
Observatory. There was plenty of snow and ice on the upper trail in early February.
