Park is open from 6 a.m. until midnight. Other park use rules are posted at the parking area.

Overview

This trail runs parallel to the Spring Creek, complete with limestone cliffs, as well as a managed meadow area that is home to many species of local bird life. This is a great, quick run for the family with lots to see and enjoy. Time your visit for the spring and summer for best wildflower viewing.

Need to Know

Parts of the trail pass very close to the edge of the limestone cliffs that form the banks of Spring Creek. During heavy rain events, parts of the trail can become impassable due to high water.

The entrance to the parking area can only be accessed from the south when Spring Creek is outside of its banks. Snake awareness signs are posted at the beginning of the trail.

Runner Notes

Fairly smooth trail, but it does have a few tree roots and deadfall that adorn the trail in places.

Description

The trail starts at the parking lot and can be navigated in any direction. There are many intersecting trails throughout the property. If taken counter-clockwise, your run will start in the forest running parallel to the Spring Creek and end in the meadow. There are several pull-outs on the trail where you can continue down to the banks of the creek. There is also a separate trail that enters the preserve at the northwest end.

Be sure to stay left on the trail to find your way back to the parking lot. If running through the meadow, note that there can be very high grass, so take care when choosing footwear and clothing.

Flora & Fauna

There is wide variety of local bird life as well as opportunities for wildflower viewing. There is a complete list of local flora and fauna at springcreekforest.org, as well as opportunities to volunteer at this local nature preserve.
