Runner Notes

This trail's mostly smooth tread and moderate grades make for a great workout.

Description

Whether used as a segment of a longer run or by itself, the Telegraph Pass Trail always provides visitors with a pleasant experience and scenic views.

Starting at the Desert Foothills Trailhead, the trail follows a wide, paved path through typical Sonoran Desert flora and fauna before reaching a junction with the Desert Classic Trail. From the junction, the trail heads left, climbing progressively steeper grades on a mostly smooth, albeit occasionally cobbled tread. Finally, the trail ends into the Telegraph Pass Trailhead at a junction with the National Trail.

About 2/3 way through the hike, at about 1/4 the elevation. Trail goes from gully w/small rocks (here) to a little steeper with larger rocks, pretty quick. The modestly steeper section is only about 400m of hike.

South end of the trail. Arizona evenings can't be beat. Don't let the paved trail fool you - 10-20% grades...coming within a half mile.

A view from the top. Intersection with the National and Kiwanis trail - and Summit Rd. A nice bench and some smooth boulders to take a rest.
