“An incredible trail through the Yosemite of South America.”— Russell Hobart
1- Register at the house at the beginning of the trail.
2- Watch for pack horses (also you can rent them out if you don't want lug your pack)
3- Use trekking poles or a walking stick. Horses have carved out 5' deep trenches that you navigate above/around, which could cause a broken ankle.
From the parking lot, follow the road past the gate until it goes from gravel to dirt. You'll be slowly gaining elevation for a mile and a half until you cross a washout from and old landslide. There is some loose bald rock through this section. Continue uphill for another mile and a half with the trail getting steeper. For the next couple of miles, the trail flattens out but becomes wetter and runners will be more prone to slips into the deep ruts. At this point, the trail is quite braided and full of cut logs that you balance on from one to another to avoid falling into the slop. The final two miles dry out and have a few magical river crossing in suspended carts.
