Runner Notes

This would be a hell of a tough trail run - even strong runners are likely to be walking at points along the way. It's also a little loose and sandy in spots.

Description

This is a challenging trail that requires plenty of fitness and plenty of water. The remote feel is nice, given its proximity to civilization, and the abundance of evergreens for shade is welcome. However, to complete the entire trail up to the TRT area is pretty tough.

There's plenty of parking near the start of the trail, just off Davis Creek Campground Road. You'll start climbing right away, and just about 1/2 mile in, you'll cross the much gentler and shorter Discovery Trail. Continue on, and you'll have another decision to make about 2 miles into your outing, after you cross Ophir Creek. There, you can head right on a connector to Rock Lake. This is a common option, which takes you to a small pond covered with lily pads, and surrounded by boulders.

To stay on the Ophir Creek Trail, stay left, following signs towards Upper Price Lake. This lake is quite beautiful, and worth the extra mileage and climbing - it's located just below a big land slide, and is dammed by the rocks from a more recent slide.

The lake isn't a bad place to turn around and head back, but if you're feeling strong, keep climbing up towards the TRT for even more scenery, and tremendous wildflowers. From the trail's end and intersection with the TRT, you can continue on or return the way that you came.
