A steep ascent from Lake Poway to the Potato Chip Rock with little shade but awesome views.

Runner Notes

A sustained steep grade and exposure make this a tough but doable option as an out-and-back hill climb.

Description

From the southeast corner of Lake Poway and the Lake Poway Trail, look for this trail heading east up the ridge. The start of the trail is a wide fire road.

After a mile or so, you'll come to a clearing where the trail will begin to narrow down as it winds through the boulders.

From the clearing, it's another ~1.6 miles to the Potato Chip Rock with little shade so plan accordingly with water and sun protection.
