Description

According to Trails 2000, officially this trail is done in a counter clockwise direction, but it can be completed either way. I like to sometimes go in a clockwise direction so I can run down along the edge with great views of the valley and eventually Durango.

Start the trail at 32nd St in north Durango and make your way up several switchbacks. the trail climbs steadily for nearly three miles until you reach the high point of Animas Mountain. Take a moment to enjoy the well-earned views before you start your descent on the east side of the loop to return to the start.

Great climb for the first 2.5 miles. Very muddy today, so took it slow coming down. 7mi

My first time on the trail, as I am visiting Durango, but there are a ton of off shoots and trail finding here. Pretty rocky and rutted too. 5.9mi
