Overview

A great route located close to Colorado Springs, this is a perfect place to get outside and to get a great workout. Combine the Mt. Cutler Trail and the Muscoco Trail for a ridgeline and view-filled outing.

Description

The trailhead is located at a small parking lot on N Cheyenne Canyon Rd (no restrooms), 1.5 miles after the turnoff for the Starsmore Visitor and Nature Center (keep right). A fairly gradual incline with some interesting rock formations start this strenuous outing.

There are several forks in the trail which lead off to other areas, but the trail is fairly well signed. The main turnoff is under a mile in (around .75mi), take the right turn to head up to Mt. Muscoco.

Some views of Colorado Springs pop up about half way up the mountain, around 1 mi to 1.25mi.

The last third towards the top gets a little slippery with loose rock and gravel, but just take your time and you'll be fine.

From the top, there are great 360° views of the surrounding mountains, you can spot a Seven Falls waterfall and old mining or lookout town to the southeast.

Overall this is a really great half-day outing.

This is at the top, at the end. I sat and ate my orange and meditated to relish in the greatness.

Slick and icy, parts of the trail are unrunnable, even walking is dicey in sections. 4mi
