In the spring, you may find the Transfer Trail Road gated one mile below the upper trailhead.

Description

Head north out of Glenwood Springs on N Traver Trail Road. After 0.40 miles, take a right onto the gravel road. This is the beginning of Transfer Trail. Until you reach the upper parking area, the road is suitable for passenger cars when dry. After another 2 miles, you'll reach the Upper Transfer Trail parking lot.

From the north end of the parking lot look for a doubletrack going off to the right. Just after turning onto the trail, you'll pass an unsigned, unlocked gate.

The first section of the run is relatively flat. At 0.75 miles, you'll see another doubletrack coming in from the right. That trail leads back to the south side of the parking lot where you started. At 1 mile is a faint doubletrack going to the right. That is worth exploring also, but for this trail keep to the left. The last half mile switchbacks steeply up the hill.

The trail runs through an old rock pit. There are many off shoot trails to explore.
