Open year round, but trails are "closed" to foot traffic during the winter to keep the trails in good shape for xcountry skiing and snowshoeing. Follow the "Friends of Great Bear" facebook pages for updates on when this change is implemented each year.

Overview

This route is all traveled using good singletrack located not too far outside of Syracuse. Even when the parking lot is full, the trails seem pretty empty, and runners can enjoy a bit of solitude.

Need to Know

If its wet, the bridges can get slick, so watch your step!

Description

Follow a series of arrows blazed white with red stripes in a clockwise direction for mellow singletrack that takes you through old tree farms and past abandoned buildings. The structures date back from the time the area was used to collect and bottle spring water. Start out by heading west down the dirt road and the River's Landing Loop. At the first intersection, continue on the trail as it bends to your left following the arrows. Though there are many blazed trails, the red and white arrows will show you the way for the rest of the route.

The entire loop follows enjoyable, shaded singletrack, though it can be muddy at times. Always be alert for other users and especially horseback riders, who deserve the right of way. Trails are well maintained and most creeks and boggy areas have bridges. Each trail is well marked.
