Description
This is a strenuous loop trail that leads to the top of Moore's Knob - the highest point in Hanging Rock State Park.
It's recommended to run this loop in the clockwise direction. The trail starts at the picnic/swimming area at Hanging Rock Lake. The first 1.5 miles follow a beautiful mountain creek valley, passing the junction of the
Magnolia Springs Trail at 1.0 miles.
At 1.5 miles, the trail turns to the right and begins a steeper ascent of Moore's Wall. At 2.0 miles, the trail levels out and follows the ridge line of Moore's Wall. Moore's Knob and its observation tower are reached at 2.5 miles, the high point of the loop at 2,572 feet.
Descend from Moore's Knob passing Balanced Rock. The trail continues to descend passing through the family campground and passing meeting itself at the upper end of Hanging Rock Lake. Follow the path beside the lake back to the parking area.
