Description

To access this trail, park at the Elkwallow Parking Area and head out on the Elkwallow Picnic Ground Trail. From the northern-most point of this trail and the loop driveway, look for the AT Access-Jeremys Run Trail. This will lead to the white-blazed AT. Turn left onto the AT, and look for blue-blazes on the right and a trail marker that signals the start of Jeremys Run Trail.

The trail is fairly steep at either end but has a gradual slope throughout the middle of the trail. It starts from the white-blazed AT at Elkwallow Gap and heads down and west past the park boundary to Green Hollow. The trail crosses the stream a number of times and can be challenging at points. Some areas at the stream might be easier to cross than others, choose your path but don't disrupt the rocks or vegetation.

Jeremys Run is one of the most scenic streams in the park, with an unending series of waterfalls, rapids, and small pools. At the lower end of the run, there is a small but uninterrupted waterfall. The stream heads through a rocky canyon with occasionally steep walls. The upper half of the stream is much narrower than the lower half. With a Virginia state fishing license, you can fish for trout that are in Jeremys Run.

During spring and rainy bouts in summer, the stream can be very high and the trail can get saturated. High-ankle, waterproof boots can be helpful to keep your feet dry. This run should not be attempted if it has been raining considerably and streams are high.
