Overview

A great trail into Canyon de Chelley to visit the White House ruins, an Anasazi cliff dwelling.

Description

To access White House Ruin trailhead from the Canyon de Chelly visitor center, take the South Rim Road, Route 7, for approximately 6 miles. The turn off to the White House Ruin overlook/White House Ruin trailhead is well-marked.

From the trailhead at White House Ruin lookout, you'll see signs marking the trail down into Canyon de Chelly to visit the White House ruins. The White House ruins are Anasazi cliff dwellings.

Please remember that Canyon de Chelly is administered by the National Park Service, but on land belonging to the Navajo Nation. The White House Ruin trail is the only trail within the park that does not require a guide. The trail to the ruin descends approximately 600 feet. The roundtrip is about 2.5 miles.
