You must be able to pull yourself up a 6-foot rope. Your feet will get wet as some of the hiking is through streams of water. This trail is closed from May 15, 2016 through September 30, 2016 due to the heat.

Runner Notes

The last half mile is too steep to run for the most part.

Description

The run at Gold Strike Canyon Hot Springs, also known as the Nevada Hot Springs, follows a canyon to the Colorado River just downstream from Hoover Dam. The trailhead is located off of a gravel road that goes under the new stretch of Highway 93 heading toward the new bridge, and located a short way past the Hacienda Casino.

The route follows the drainage, descending over several minor waterfalls as it makes its way toward a sizeable area of hot spring fed pools. The total distance on the out-and-back run to the pools is five miles with 800 feet of elevation gain on the return. The stretch of canyon past the pools going to the river is significantly more difficult, and there is one section where you have to pull yourself up a 6-foot rope.

Along the way, you'll come across waterfalls and hot springs and the trail ends at the Colorado River.

Flora & Fauna

There an abundance of desert flowers in the early spring, February and March. Plants include indigo bush, ground cherry, Mormon tea, cheese bush, rush-milkweed, rabbit brush, desert fir, globe mallow, desert tobacco, desert trumpet, rock nettle, rock daisy, and windmills. You also might see big horn sheep watching over you.

Awesome trail, but you’ll need some upper body strength or help from a friend for the rock climbs. 5mi
