When Fontana Lake levels are low, the Ollie Cove Trail is the location where boat shuttles to and from Hazel Creek, where it often drops visitors off. The trail starts at the lake level and climbs towards the Lakeshore Trail. When you get off the boat, turn around and take in the view of Fontana Lake and the surrounding mountains.
The trail leaves the waters edge and beings to climb (roughly 200 feet in .3 miles). When the trail meets the Lakeshore Trail, there are several options. If you go to the left, there is easy access to Campsite #86 and the
Hazel Creek Trail, which is about a mile from the trail junction. If you go to the right, enjoy traveling along the Lakeshore Trail.
The shuttles to and from the Hazel Creek area depart from Fontana Marina, near Fontana Village and Fontana Dam. The trip provides good views of the surrounding mountains and easy access to trails in the Hazel Creek watershed and more remote sections of the park.
This trail is not marked on park maps at this point.
