Features Views

Welcome to the Mt. Disappointment Endurance Runs where you can experience some of the finest trails and canyons of the San Gabriel Mountains. Our course is incredibly scenic, yet strenuous and challenging. We feature fully stocked aid stations as you become part of the semi-wilderness surroundings. The final climb to the summit of Mt Wilson up the Kenyon Devore Trail will test each runner with terrain and surroundings that are truly unique to these canyons.

Parking will be at the Mt. Wilson parking lot. The Start of both the 25K and the 50K will be in the parking lot (at 7:00 a.m.) and then proceed down Mt. Wilson Road to Eaton Saddle. All runners will follow dirt road through the old Mueller Tunnel to Markum Saddle, where they will be surrounded by a 360 panoramic view of 7 peaks, which include Occidental Peak, Mt. Lowe, Muir Peak, Brown Mountain, Mt. Markham, San Gabriel Peak, and of course, Mt. Disappointment. From Markham Saddle, runners will take the Upper San Gabriel Peak Trail going past San Gabriel Peak (6000 ft) up to the paved road. Runners follow along the paved area in front of Mt. Disappointment, existing to Lower San Gabriel Peak Trail and on to Mt. Wilson Road and down to the Red Box Aid Station #1 (mile 5.2).

50K Runners leave Red Box Aid Station leave Red Box Aid Station on the Gabrielino Trail to Switzers Picnic Area. Runners exit up the paved road to the trail to Clear Creek Aid Station (mile 10.3). Runners exit Clear Creek and go up Josephine Fire Road to Colby Canyon Trail (water only station at mile 12.8). Continue on Colby Canyon Trail to Strawberry Peak Trail encircling Strawberry Peak past Mt. Lawlor and onto Red Box Aid Station (mile 20.6 with 1:10 p.m. Cut-off).

50K Runners leave Red Box Aid Station on the tree-covered Red Box Fire Road all the way to the West Fork Aid Station (mile 25.7). Upon leaving Westfork, all 50K runners take the Gabrielino Trail going west to the base of the Kenyon Devore Trail. The final climb, which offers spectacular views, ascends the Kenyon Devore Trail (1910 ft in 3.1 miles) up to the Mt. Wilson Summit 50K Finish (mile 31.1 with 4:30 p.m. Cut-off).
