Requires a little work but it is worth the run to Tre Cime without having to pay the 24 Euro toll.

Description

Start at the large parking area at Lago Artorno. Run counter-clockwise around the trail and just before coming back to the road, jump the single tape cow "fence" and follow the footpath through the grass which will soon turn into a singletrack. At the first split, stay left and cross the stream.

A long gradual climb will begin and become much steeper as you reach the paved road. Once you cross the paved road some minor scrambling will be required. You'll soon approach Refugio Tre Cime and have a view of Tre Cime. Follow the wide path to the right of Tre Cime. This path will loop around the mountain peaks and through an expansive boulder field, past some small ponds and then climb a little to Refugio Locatelli.
