Description

From Helena, head up Grizzley Gulch and watch for a short dirt/grass road on your right to access a small parking area. From here, run up Grizzley Gulch about 3/10th of a mile or so and watch for a partially hidden trail with a small bridge on your left (just before a drive with farming shed and fenced area on the left). Cross the bridge, hug the fence on your right for a short distance before the trail switchbacks to your left.

From here, the trail switchbacks as it climbs though not steeply. The switchbacks soon stop and you'll be headed up a gentle grade before the trail flattens out in a meadow. Continue ahead until you reach the intersection with Stairway to Heaven (heading to your left) and Barking Dog Trail (heading to your right). Continue straight ahead where the trail will enter some forest and begin to drop. The trail eventually ends at Wakina Gulch. Head down Wakina Gulch a short way and watch for the other end of the Stairway to Heaven which you can take for a nice 2+-mile loop.
