Runner Notes

Watch for mountain bikes coming fast downhill.

Description

Starting from Powder Canyon Trail, this fire road is a beast for the first half-mile, climbing over 300 feet to a gravel road that joins from the left. Stay straight. From there the grades mellow considerably and the climb up to the radio tower is pretty easy, but before you reach it you'll see two right-hand splits.

The first one is Buena Vista Trail - a short connector dirt road and the second split is a tiny short-cut to a later point of the Buena Vista Trail. I know, confusing. Just take the second right if you want to go downhill on Schabarum Trail to the bottom of Schabarum Park.

Stay left on Purple Sage after the two right turns and the road passes through rolling terrain below the radio tower. On clear days the views south over Orange County are really nice. The road ends at another dirt road, Schabarum Trail.
