Glaciated peaks ahead as the trail crosses the flood plain of Petain Creek.

Mt. McCuiag, 9.462 ft., dominates the scene when following Petain Creek (bottom) upstream.

Petain Falls, about 100 ft. tall, is safely seen from a good viewing area.
Amphitheater of waterfalls. The largest, Petain Falls, is just out of sight on the right. Glaciers (out of sight) above these cliffs, feed all these waterfalls.
Upper Elk Lake. Glaciated peaks in the distance (left to right) - Mt. McCuiag (9,462 ft.), Mt. De Gaulle (9,686 ft.), Mt. Nivelle (10,683 ft.), and Mt. Casteinau (9.859 ft.). Nearby Mt. Elkan (9.056 ft.) upper right, rises from the lakeshore.
