Spy Rock [Suggest Edits]
Description
Experience one of Frontenac Arch Biosphere's Amazing Places, a spectacular view!
Spy Rock is located in Foley Mountain Conservation Area and is one of the nicest viewpoints in the region. From it, you can spy the lovely village of Westport and the surrounding Frontenac Arch Biosphere.
Spy Rock was formed half a billion years ago when a school bus-sized meteor impacted near the village of Holleford, leaving a crater (still visible) that is 2 km wide. This impact caused an earthquake along a fault line stretching from the north of Frontenac Provincial Park to Ottawa. The land to the south of the fault line dropped, and in the case of Foley Mountain, it dropped away by 100m, which is why there is such a high cliff.
Short Walk: From the Spy Rock Parking Lot, take the Spy Rock Parking Lot Shortcut to the Blue Circle Trail then turn on Spy Rock Trail, which is a short sloped boardwalk.
