Description

The Iron Gates are one of the most famous features of the Samaria Gorge run. Here the creek has carved a 300 m (900 ft) deep gorge through the White Mountains. You wouldn't guess that the small trickle of a stream that passes through the gorge (you'll cross it several times along the run on strategically placed stones) could carve such a thing, but it clearly has.

All-Day Run: You'll pass through the so-called "Iron Gates" on the Samaria Gorge run. The "gates" aren't actually made of iron but rather are a 4 m (13 ft) wide section of the gorge with 300 m (900 ft) tall cliffs on either side.
