Description
Lake 69 is the hidden gem of the Cordillera Blanca, the second highest mountain range on Earth. This beautiful aquamarine lake is located at 4650 m beneath the permanently glaciated peaks of Chacaraju (6112m/20,052 ft.) and Pisco (5752m/18,871 ft.) If you are wo/man enough take a swim; if you are tough as nails, go in a second time once you know how cold it is! Hardcore runners do the full loop via 4887m to Pisco refuge.
All-Day Run: The trailhead at Cebollapampa is 30 mins by private transport from Llanganuco Mountain Lodge, or it is 3 hours from Huaraz city.
The trek is roughly 2.5 hours up, once acclimatized, and 2 hours down. If trail running, I do it in 1 hr 15 min. up and 45 mins down.
