Description

The summit of Lookout Mountain is probably the best view you'll find of Mount Hood's east side; plus (conditions permitting), you'll be able to see major peaks all the way from Mount Rainier to Diamond Peak, which is south of the Three Sisters—a straight-line distance of about 225 miles. From this vantage point, you can also see the desert of Central Oregon, the peaks of the Columbia Gorge, parts of the Hood River Valley, and the Columbia River itself.

Short Run: You can drive within a mile of the summit on Forest Road 4410 for a 2.2-mile round-trip run with an elevation gain only a few hundred feet. Or you can run up from Highway 35—it’s 9.2-mile round-trip run with a total elevation gain of 2,975 feet.
