Need to Know
I wouldn't recommend this trail during high winds. The trees throw branches and the tower is dropping bolts and metal.
Description
To access this trail, turn west onto Sophie's Lane (just south of Deer Mountain Campground). Continue on Sophie's Lane until you see the signs for Deer Mountain Fire Tower (on the left). The trailhead is 0.2 miles up this road.
This trail follows blue blazes to the summit. It mostly follows the stream, weaving across it a few times. It passes a small trickling waterfall (on the left) as it continues to climb. It turns right to travel through a small valley and passes a small bog. The trail climbs through a rough area, where the trees seem bent on falling down. The trail ends when it reaches the abandoned fire tower, at the summit.
Unfortunately, the tower seems to be discontinued. All the lower stairs were removed and there's a tree growing up through the center of it. There are limited views, since the trees have reclaimed the summit.
