Runner Notes
This trail can definitely get sandy in spots...it is best run a few days after rain.
Description
This trail is narrow, washed out, and sandy in spots; it isn't as well groomed as the other trails in the area. It's certainly the least utilized trail in Montana de Oro, being traveled mostly by equestrian users. Mountain biking is permitted, but it's too advanced for all but the most experienced technical riders.
The trail undulates along the ridges and canyons comprising Hazard Peak so it is difficult to get a rhythm going on the trail; but, it is scenic as it transitions between scrub brush, oak groves, sandy washes, and eucalyptus groves. Overall, a fun singletrack.
This trail begins at KEEP Camp, whose entrance is off Pecho Valley Road. Go left and uphill; continue strait past the
Hiedra Trail junction; bear right and downhill at the horse camp; there are no more junctions until you reach
East Cable Trail.
