Need to Know
The fully serviced chalet is open during ski season. Snowshoe trail passes are required for winter use. Off season, there is no charge but donations are appreciated.
Description
This is one of the best trails for all season use. There are several summits with outstanding views, but this "Western Ridge" run is the closest one to the chalet and is a short interesting hike when combined with Snowshoe Trail B1 back to the chalet. The trail branches off
Snowshoe Trail A1 that starts right by the chalet and continues through a mature spruce forest right to
Games Trail.
Across
Games Trail the path meanders through a young deciduous forest that emerged after the forest fire in the 1980's. There is a bit of an incline and then the trail passes over a bare windswept knoll. Look closely for markers as there aren't many substantial trees to hold signs. The height provides some great views of other snowshoeing destinations and of course Gosling Lake, Lake Melville and Mealy Mountains.
Flora & Fauna
This is an interesting summer run to view how the physical landscape determines the flora that will thrive. The transitions from one assemblage of plants to another are abrupt. Beginning in spring, use the trail frequently and each week there will be different flowers in bloom. See the park
website for details.
