Description

This trail begins at a fairly secluded parking area just off of E. Miller Road in Rowlett. From the parking area the trail meanders along the eastern shore of Rowlett Creek just prior to its final destination in Lake Ray Hubbard. The trail is a doubletrack with a crushed gravel surface. It is well-maintained by the city and has waste receptacles all along the trail. There are also sporadic benches scattered under large trees that beg to be enjoyed.

Your run takes you behind a sleepy neighborhood that is often times out of sight. Along this trail you'll likely see many different types of wildlife. As it does fall in a floodplain, there can be times where water may be partially or fully covering the trail. Use caution and turn back if the trail is covered. Eventually the trail terminates in a small meadow where you can loop around and retrace your steps back to the parking area.

Overall an excellent run for anyone longing for nature, but is hesitant to leave the city behind. It is a respite of solitude and particularly quiet given it's suburban setting. A great place to run, explore, or cast a line.

Flora & Fauna

Wildlife is definitely around and will likely be seen on your travels in this area. Upon mapping this trail I had a close encounter with a large box turtle and a lengthy grass snake that appeared from the treetops above. It made for a refreshing run in the midst of an urban metropolis and was a quaint reminder that wildlife is always close by no matter the location.
