Day use permits and updated trailway information can be obtained from Caprock Canyons State Park and Trailway Headquarters, three miles South of Quitague, Tx, on FM 1065. Phone: 1(806)-455-1492.
Rattlesnakes are common. Always watch where you put your hands and feet.
Runner Notes
The trail is wide and well maintained in most areas, but water may be a concern so be sure to plan ahead when considering a trail run, especially in the warmer months.
Description
The Oxbow Trail can be accessed from Tampico Siding or Turkey Depot. A parking area is available at either end of the trail and a backcountry campsite area is available at Tampico Siding. There is no marked camping area in Turkey Depot according to the Caprock Canyons Trialway handout provided by the park. Water availability at trailheads and on trail is unreliable so runners and backpackers should plan ahead regarding water needs and pack plenty of water. There is an Allsups in Turkey Depot where runners and backpackers can get water and food. The trail is open in most areas so wind and sun exposure can be concerns.
