Description

While Street Mountain is considered a trail-less 46'er, there is a trail that is well worn and easy to follow for the most part. From the Heart Lake parking lot, follow a gravel trail around the north end of the lake until you reach a sign that states "Old Nye Ski Trail." Follow this to the right and after about 1.5 miles you'll reach Indian Pass Brook. Here the ski trail comes to an end, but a foot path continues on the other side. This stream is wide and easy to cross in the summer. However, if running in the spring, be prepared for a difficult crossing due to swift and high water. The other issue crossing this stream is picking up the trail once across. There are several locations to cross. This is due to people looking for the best place to cross, which depends on water levels. If crossing at the first point you can access the stream, turn right once across and follow the faint trail until the trail turns left and travels uphill.

Another 0.5 miles from the stream crossing there is another stream crossing, but this one is easy and not very wide. After this point, the trail climbs steadily along a rocky and root-covered trail. At about mile 3, you come to a trail junction with Nye Mountain Trail. This is actually carved into a tree.

Turn left to the summit of Street Mountain. This is the most enjoyable section because the trail travels through rocks and trees covered in many shades of green moss. There is no view from the actual summit—only a sign. A trail continues to possible viewpoints but nothing definitive.
