This trail follows Little Slate Creek for 11 miles and starts off the Little Slate Saddle off the Grangeville/Salmon Rd (FS221). This trail is a non-motorized trail and does see yearly maintenance once the snow clears.
The trail is mostly mellow and is in thick tree cover for most of its length. The trail starts out very gradually descending for the first 5 miles or so. After a short climb, the trail descends again, more steeply now, though still over fairly moderate grades. You'll pass through some meadows where the trail will fade out in early summer so keep your eyes open for trail signs and also follow the gps track on the Trail Run Project mobile app where you are unsure. The creek at the bottom of the trail can be high in the early season, so keep this in mind if you try to get out early in the season since there are no good options around this creek crossing.
