Description

The Red Ledges Trail (019) connects the Aspen Flat Trail (018) to the Robertson Pasture Trail (20) and is intersected near its middle by the Red Ledges Access Trail (160).

Starting from its westernmost end at the junction with Aspen Flat Trail (018), the trail descends gradually through a patchwork of trees and grass, periodically offering visitors great views of Twin Peaks. After a brief rockier section, the trail descends steeply for a third of a mile to its low point at a crossing of Indian Creek.

If the creek has backflowed into a muddy bog, there's a user-built bypass that should provide a reasonable way across.

After crossing the creek, the climbing resumes. While gradual at first, it quickly becomes steeper, navigating a pair of switchbacks before rising steadily along the contours of the slope. Upon reaching a craggy corner, the Red Ledges Access Trail (160) makes an appearance to the right, whereafter the trail continues with more rocky climbing. Eventually, the grade lessens as a section of rolling terrain begins.

Along this section, the trail's narrow singletrack continues to leapfrog from trees to meadows to create a beautiful alpine feel. As the trail crosses a low ridgeline, it begins a gradual, half-mile descent over one of its prettiest sections. Enjoy the open views, sunny meadows, and bright forests.

A small creek crossing signals the final, sustained climb to the intersection with the Robertson Pasture Trail. Near the top, the tread becomes more rough and rutted.
